Vigyan Pratibha

The Vigyan Pratibha project is led by the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) and TIFR, with funding from the Department of Atomic Energy. This initiative aims to nurture scientific and mathematical talent in students of Classes 8, 9, and 10, especially from diverse and non-elite backgrounds. It promotes curiosity and critical thinking through carefully designed learning units, encouraging students to go beyond textbooks to explore the essence of science and mathematics. By focusing on observation, pattern recognition, and collaborative discussions, the project makes learning a personal and meaningful experience. Additionally, it connects students to the technological and social changes around them. IISER Bhopal is one of the regional centers actively participating in the initiative.

Participating Institutes

HBCSE collaborates with several premier institutions to provide ongoing academic support to teachers from Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs), Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), and Atomic Energy Central Schools (AECSs) for the effective execution of Vigyan Pratibha. Key partners include IISER Bhopal, Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics (Kolkata), National Institute of Science Education and Research (Bhubaneswar), Institute of Physics (Bhubaneswar), Institute of Mathematical Sciences (Chennai), IISER Mohali, IISER Kolkata, and others. IISER Bhopal plays a vital role as a regional center, supporting the program through teachers' training workshops, school visits, and development of learning units, significantly enhancing outreach and impact.

Vigyan Pratibha Teachers' Training Workshops

IISER Bhopal organizes two spells of teachers' training workshops annually, attended by teachers from KVs, JNVs, and AECSs across neighboring states. The first spell lasts 5 days, and the second spans 4 days. Participants are provided accommodation at the IISER Bhopal guest house, creating a comfortable environment for effective learning. Over the last two academic years, a total of 4 successful workshops have been conducted.

Resource Generation Camp

The Vigyan Pratibha Resource Generation Camp (RGC) is an annual event held at one of the regional centers, bringing together Vigyan Pratibha team members and scientific experts. These camps focus on developing learning materials and exchanging ideas for creating new LUs in science and mathematics. It also serves as a platform for reviewing drafts of recently developed Learning Units (LUs) and fostering discussions to refine these resources. Open discussions during the sessions allow team members and experts to provide valuable insights and feedback, making the learning materials more engaging and effective for students.

Resource Generation Camp at IISER Bhopal: IISER Bhopal hosted the 2024 RGC camp, which was held from October 3–7, 2024, with around 70 delegates attending, including faculty members from prestigious institutions and VP staff from all regional centers. The camp focused on reviewing and discussing recently drafted learning units (LUs) in science and mathematics, as well as generating ideas for new ones. Two parallel sessions were organized to facilitate open discussions and collaborative efforts on the learning units. A school visit was also organized to KV Bairagarh, where VP staff members conducted learning units with students, providing valuable insights and feedback that enriched the overall experience.

School Visit

School visits were conducted to various government schools, Kendriya Vidyalayas (KV), and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNV) across the state. Our team visited the schools and conducted the Vigyan Pratibha learning units, which were based on science and mathematics for students of classes 8th and 9th. These sessions benefited approximately 325 students, enhancing their understanding and engagement with the subjects.
